FIVE DAYS WITH MY NEW DIGITAL MISTRESS...

It’s unlikely to be on most music-lover’s lists of dream collaborations, but, in case you hadn’t heard, The Eurythmics have joined forces with The Police and Bruce Springsteen to release a Greatest Hits album. Well, they have on my new iPod at least. I click on the Eurythmics Greatest Hits album in cover flow, and up comes up some of their classic tracks including Roxanne and Born To Run. Eh? Has the world gone completely mad? Am I suddenly going to find out that Simon LeBon’s first job in showbiz was as presenter of Ready Steady Cook, or that Russell Harty was the original bassist for the Sex Pistols? Or is there simply a meta-tagging issue afoot? Wierdly, it’s not affecting other “Greatest Hits” albums I’ve loaded onto the Touch, but is one of a number of little niggles I’ve discovered under the covers while playing with my new digital mistress. There’s also been a problem synching some albums … I can’t get the artwork of either T-Rex or Elvis’s “The Essential Collection” onto the Touch – the music is fine, but the artwork won’t transfer across. Also, occasionally I’m flung out of coverflow and back into the menu like a jilted boyfriend. This issue is even more common when using Safari. Thankfully, all of these are minor glitches that’ll no doubt be ironed out in future software iterations. One glaring omission from the main menu widgets, however, is a Mac Mail button. Currently, I have to go through Safari to access my inbox. Why didn’t they include a more seamless, direct option? Rumour has it, that Apple will be launching a touchscreen mini-computer in January. If so, perhaps they’re ensuring that there is a clear distinction between their multimedia player and future maxi-PDA ranges. The plot thickens.
